Avon

Nestled in the Eagle River Valley, at the base of Beaver Creek Resort and eight miles west of Vail, Avon is known as the Heart of the Valley and a great base for launching mountain adventures in skiing, hiking, biking, paddling and more. With 6,700 year-round residents, plus another 3,500 part-time residents, Avon offers a multitude of recreational opportunities, special events, parks, open space and trails along with a mix of local and national shops and restaurants.

In the summer, the 48-acre Harry A. Nottingham Park offers fun for the whole family. Rent a paddle boat, fish in the lake, walk around the park or just relax on the grass and bask in the sunshine. The town loves to celebrate the holidays with events such as Salute to the USA, the largest fireworks display in the Colorado Rockies; Dunk-n-Dash, a duathlon race series; national and international events such as IronKids and Dock Dogs.

Art in Avon

The Town of Avon and the Avon Art Council is proud of its rich heritage and places a high value on public art.  In 1989, Avon began its public art collection with the unveiling of "Checkmate" by cowboy artist Herb Mignery at the Town's 10th Anniversary Celebration. Since then the Avon has added to its collection with several other statues placed around town center, in the roundabouts and at the public library. The Arts Council, Town Council, Public Library, and residents of Avon are proud to share their collection all those who come to Avon.  So take a moment to walk around town and enjoy all of the wonderful public art on display!

Eagle County Trail

Avon features one of the most scenic sections of the 63 mile Eagle Valley Trail paved path system that is being constructed to connect all of the communities of the Eagle and Vail valleys.  Avon’s two mile section of trail parallels the river, providing access points for fishing or relaxing on a bench overlooking the scenic stream.  Walking, biking and jogging are all popular along the trail.  Cafes, shops, the town’s library and Nottingham Park can be accessed from the trail.   You can travel west on the trail for five miles to visit the community of Edwards for more recreation or activity options.  The trail connection to the east to connect to Vail is currently in design to begin construction later this year, but you can travel from central Avon in the Highway 6 wide shoulder for 3 miles and pick up the Eagle Valley Trail again to travel east to the TownVail.

Whitewater Park

Whether you are a seasoned paddler or a curious sightseer, Avon’s Whitewater Park offers an exhilarating and fun freestyle kayaking experience.  Located just blocks south of the town center, directly under “Bob the Bridge” on Avon Road, Avon’s Whitewater Park is 350 feet in length.

The Park offers a spectator viewing terrace and large flat boulders along the river’s edge for seating.  In keeping with the humor of the name of the bridge that hovers above the park, the three water features are aptly named, Baby Bob, Bob Jr., and Bob Sr. The Whitewater Park offers beginning, intermediate, and advanced paddling opportunities.

Salute to the USA

Over 10,000 shells explode in the sky above Avon during the Colorado Rockies largest display of fireworks! This spectacular display is choreographed to a musical score simulcast on local radio.  Spectators are encouraged to come early and enjoy the live concert, Family Zone, food vendors and the most prestigious fireworks display in the state! Bring the whole family, a picnic basket, a warm jacket and enjoy a great celebration July 3rd at Harry A. Nottingham Park in Avon, CO.
